Assistant/Associate Professor (Full-Time, Tenure-Track)

SANTA CLARA UNIVERSITY, Department of Civil Engineering, invites applications for tenure-track positions in Structural Engineering, Water Resources Engineering and/or Transportation Engineering. The School of Engineering is seeking active individuals who will take a leadership role in enhancing a program known for its quality and its ethical and social values, in line with those of the University. The structural engineering position requires an emphasis in earthquake resistant design (new and retrofit) and numerical analysis of reinforced and precast concrete structures. A background in construction engineering is highly desirable. The water resources position requires an emphasis on hydrology. Interdisciplinary collaboration with environmental engineering and other parts of the University such as the Environmental Studies Program and the Center for Science, Technology, and Society is a key factor for this position. The transportation engineering position requires an emphasis on the design of transportation systems and traffic engineering. An ability to teach courses in municipal engineering, construction, and surveying is desirable. Appointments will normally be filled at the assistant professor level although the structural engineering position may be filled at the associate professor level. All candidates should have an earned Ph.D. and B.S. in civil engineering and professional licensure is desirable. The successful candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and a desire to work within a dedicated community of teaching scholars to advance current and emerging technologies in the service of the profession and society. Interdisciplinary research is strongly encouraged. The department (http://www.ce.scu.edu) offers B.S. and M.S. degree programs.

The Department maintains relationships to local industries and public agencies and to CalTrans, EERI, EPRI, and the USGS. The successful candidate will be expected to strengthen and expand these relationships.
