Santa Clara University, a Jesuit Catholic University in the heart of Silicon Valley with over 8000 students, invites applications for a unique individual to lead the graduate level School of Education, Counseling Psychology and Pastoral Ministries. The school offers professional and service-oriented graduate master’s degrees in each department and credential programs in Education. In addition, the Dean will administrate programs through the Center for Professional Development.

Responsibilities:
The Dean is the chief academic, fiscal, administrative officer of the school and reports directly to the University Provost. He/she is responsible for the leadership, management, development and evaluation of the faculty and staff, including strategic planning, academic development, curriculum planning, facilities and budgeting. In addition to setting priorities, policies and budgets for the school and working closely with faculty, staff, administrators, and students, the Dean is expected to sustain an environment of academic excellence, provide encouragement and support for academic research and build and maintain close relationships with alumni and the community. As a member of the University's senior administrative team, the Dean will play a significant role in University-wide initiatives.
It is essential that candidates have knowledge of accreditation and the accreditation process with specialized, regional and state accrediting agencies. The applicant should have current knowledge of the issues facing education and mental health counseling and be willing to become familiar with leadership issues facing church communities. The Dean will be expected to represent the School to internal and external constituencies. Active participation in the community of scholars as a teacher-scholar will be expected.

The successful applicant should present evidence of:
a commitment to the mission, values and goals of the university;
credentials commensurate with those in the senior ranks in a discipline within the School;
successful academic leadership that demonstrates a collegial and collaborative work style;
experience in program development and budget management;
experience in the acquisition and management of external funding;
experience and capability to understand and provide advocacy for the distinct units in the School;
the ability to represent the needs of the School to the Administration; and
the ability to build on the recent excellent debut of the School.
